Orange slices can be a fun and creative element to add to your crafts. I remember many Christmas seasons spent creating ornaments made from dried orange slices. These were ornaments that were meant to look like lollipops, but were actually placed on our Christmas tree. Cinnamon sticks were topped with dehydrated orange slices, and then a clove was placed in the middle to create a very fragrant ornament. You can add a ribbon or a few cute buttons to complete this Christmas tree ornament.

The dehydrated orange slice is quite simple to create, even for novice crafters. If you want to use these dried fruits in your crafts you just have to follow a few easy steps. The first thing you need to do is find a few large oranges and slice them into ¼” slices. Do not peel the oranges you are using. Dip your pieces into lemon juice and then dehydrate the orange pieces according to the directions given for your dehydrator. Lemon juice will help to increase the longevity of your project and prevent oxidation. Oxidation can cause ugly brown spots on your fruit. Using an oven for dehydration will probably not fully dry your fruit, leading to mold. This method is not recommended.

As you consider your craft project, think about whether or not you want consistent pieces.  If you think you need pieces which are uniform in size, then you will not be able to produce many consistent slices out of each orange. Those concerned with wasting the fruit can eat the wasted pieces as you go, or sort slices only dipping the ones you want to use for your crafts. Remember not to remove the peel. Unused slices can be put in the blender or food processor to create a strong powder. This powder can be used to flavor baked goods, and it’s a wonderful way to add flavor and Vitamin C to many baked products.

You can use any type or size of orange for crafting. You could even try using a different type of citrus fruit in your craft projects. There are many unique and interesting fruits that are great for crafting. You can create beautiful projects with dried fruit. Try experimenting with different thicknesses, sizes, and dehydrator setting to see what you can do with your dried fruit. Let your creativity run wild.

You can use dried orange slices to create many beautiful crafts like wreaths, garlands, potpourri, mixes, and more. There are so many possibilities for crafting with dried fruits; the only limitation is your imagination. If you understand the correct method, it is very simple to make dried fruit slices for your crafts. If you have a dehydrator and some good ideas, you can use dried oranges to make fun and interesting crafts.

Thank you for a craft idea that is perfect fun for my grandchildren and myself. We will definitely have beautifully decorated dried fruit ornaments on our Christmas tree this year.

Thanks, I'm glad it's been helpful :). I used to love the smell of the house during the holidays thanks to these -- and then the months of orange breakfast muffins or tropical quick bread we got after that thanks to the powdered "extras."
